Advancing Tribal Data Infrastructure: The Contemporary Story of Winter Count
Great Plains Tribal Health
This session is a 4th-year presentation series on the evolving Great Plains Tribal Data Infrastructure story. Attendees will see the operation of a groundbreaking case management and contact tracing system that has been built with, and is owned by, the Great Plains Area tribes. This state of-the-art system, called Winter Count, is nested in Microsoft Azure Fabric, which is among the most advanced and secure data platforms available today. This demonstration will show how continuous, real-time data can be accessed by Tribal health leaders to advance good health and wellness in their communities. So That the People May Live. *Winter Count was based on the fact that, in winter, many Lakota families conducted a census and a recall of events. Those were often recorded on hides. In modern times, we are counting Relatives, health data, and other factors and recording those digitally. Our computers are like our modern-day hides.
