Dialogue is the heart of playwriting. In this session we will explore the idea of writing for subtext by using Jeff Sweet's excellent exercise of writing a negotiation. We will start with a brief introduction and discussion about dialog; then we will take a 30 minute writing break, and come back and read what you have created. This is a fun exercise to get you writing and playing with active dialogue.
Be ready to write but don't come in with a preformed idea, the prompt will happen in the workshop. We will want to be visible when we read the work. I will need them to be able to send me their work so I can share it with everyone as we read it out loud. Remember - playwrights learn more by hearing their work read!
