Online gambling providers have the capability to precisely record their customers' activity in their games and on their servers, from deposits and withdrawals to bets and game entries and in-game decisions. These providers have opportunities to use this data to develop and implement responsible gambling tools and algorithms that process gamblers' data and detect signs of ongoing or potentially future signs of problematic play and gambling harm. In this session, Dr. Tom will give an overview of what a provider's database might look like, outline different signs or markers of problematic behavior, and then describe how a provider might operationalize those markers using their data. From there, Dr. Boffo will present her work on an adaptive responsible gambling framework for an online casino platform that tailors responsible gambling tools to players’ playing patterns. She will also discuss scientific, operational, and regulatory aspects providers will encounter when developing and implementing responsible gambling systems. Learning Objectives: As a result of this session, attendees will be able to 1) Describe how a gambling operator might use their player account records to scan for signs of problematic gambling behavior. 2) Understand how responsible gambling frameworks work and how to design them. 3) List some of the difficulties and restrictions a gambling provider might encounter when deploying responsible gambling systems.
