This session explores current trends in gambling behavior, risk, and harm among emerging adults and youth, with attention to gender and cultural differences. Presenters will share new research, data, and evidence-informed strategies for prevention, outreach, and early intervention to reduce gambling-related harms in this population. Learning Objectives: 1) Participants will become more knowledgeable on the most recent research examining young adults' gambling behaviors. 2) Participants will be able to identify trends in sports wagering among adolescents and young adults. 3) Participants will become aware of some new prevention initiatives to minimize gambling problems. Talks: Dr. King will share results from research on youth gambling and connections to problem gambling in emerging adulthood. She will discuss implications of these data and suggest research-based approaches to guide prevention, screening, early intervention, and treatment. Dr. Derevensky will review some current research on youth and young adults gambling behaviors. He will explore their changing gambling behaviors, strategies for engaging young adults, and the need for the prevention of gambling disorders amongst this age group. Dr. Malkin will share up-to-date research on emerging adult and college student gambling behavior and risk. She will share new empirically based curriculum, outreach, and treatment options to better serve this population.
