BREAKOUT 3: The Big Secret…You already have the software you need to manage food safety: A food company case study.
A case study demonstrating how Italian Frozen Foods (IFF) USA is leveraging Microsoft Power Platform with SharePoint® to elevate its FSMS and effectively manage food safety compliance documentation, data, and certification requirements.
The complexities of a food safety management system (FSMS) are challenging for any food company to navigate, particularly for the team tasked with implementing the system. That is because regulatory agencies (e.g., FDA, USDA, OSHA, EPA) and related certifications (e.g., GFSI-benchmarked standards, gluten-free, organic, ISO) call for companies to fulfill compliance requirements—many of which overlap. Supply chain challenges, internal requirements, and staff turnover can create complications and confusion.
Having a simple, centralized FSMS to manage, track, communicate, and report compliance program information can enable staff to complete required tasks, improve compliance performance, and support operational decision-making. It sounds expensive, but it doesn’t have to be—not when most companies already have the software and just need the right combination of food safety and IT expertise to customize it.
We will present a case study demonstrating how Italian Frozen Foods (IFF) USA is leveraging the Microsoft Power Platform with SharePoint® to elevate its FSMS and effectively manage food safety compliance documentation, data, and certification requirements. We will review the live system to demonstrate how the various modules are helping IFF more efficiently manage pre-operational inspections, ambient temperature, metal detector, labeling, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) inspections, pre-shipment records reviews, environmental testing, shipping and receiving inspections, dry goods inspections, preventive maintenance, corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), customer complaints, vendor management, safety data sheets (SDS), and training.
In addition, we will discuss:
• Benefits of implementing a Microsoft 365 FSMS.
• Importance of a plan-do-check-act development approach.
• Key features and functionality of a Microsoft 365 FSMS.
• Tips to ensure successful development and implementation of an efficient FSMS.
• How to work with internal IT departments to get buy-in and support.
