The 60-minute presentation would cover Richard Sherman's newly published book, "Never Home: Remembering the Military Heroes Who Never Returned." The book is mostly photographs of the 23 American military cemeteries that hold the remains of our fallen heroes of World War I and World War II. Richard visited and photographed these cemeteries over the last six years, traveling to three continents and making eight trips overseas. The cemeteries provide the timeline to discuss the major battles of each war. In the book, Richard has dozens of short biographies about the people interred at each cemetery, and I will share a selection of these biographies during the presentation. The book and presentation are not designed to be primarily a historical account of the wars, but rather an emotional journey through the cemeteries to connect us with the individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice. The project reflects Richard's belief that these men and women deserve more than to be included as a statistic in a history book-they had names and hobbies; they had loved ones and aspirations for their future. We should know who they were; not just where they fought or which unit they served.
