The presentation will provide an introduction to recovery from a holistic perspective using SAMHSA’s Guiding Principles of Recovery, and we will be addressing stigma throughout the session. Our team of presenters has professional experience working with community mental health. We plan to assemble a small panel for 15 minutes of the presentation to involve NAMI peers, college students, and family members to share about the needs of the community and experiences with NAMI. Presenters have direct experience collaborating with the National Alliance on Mental Illness; specifically NAMI Texas. We will share information about our engagement with the NAMI leadership team, committees, conferences, education classes, and support groups for peers and family members. We will discuss how the NAMI Nacogdoches organization is growing as well as the challenges in our rural community. We will invite the attendees to share strategies for sustaining recovery services in their rural communities.
Learning Objectives:
Increase support, empathy, and awareness for mental health and recovery.
