This presentation introduces a risk-based pest control strategy using Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to proactively manage food safety hazards in food manufacturing environments. Traditional pest control programs often rely on reactive monitoring and fixed thresholds, which may overlook system-level vulnerabilities. By applying FMEA, pest-related failure modes are systematically identified, scored, and prioritized based on severity, occurrence, and detectability. This approach enables targeted preventive controls, data-driven corrective actions, and continuous improvement. Real-world implementation demonstrates improved trend analysis, enhanced regulatory alignment, and stronger integration of pest management into FSMA- and HACCP-based food safety plans.
