This hands-on engineering challenge introduces students to the real-world difficulties of landing spacecraft on another planet--one of the riskiest stages of any mission. Students work in teams to design, build, and test a shock-absorbing lander capable of protecting a fragile "astronaut" (an egg, marble, or marshmallow) during a drop test simulating Mars landing conditions.
