Transform standard plant physiology into a high-stakes mystery with "Murder in the Conservatory." This session introduces a gamified curriculum where students act as forensic horticulturists and help the Private Investigator solve the "murder" of plants. Participants will explore how to integrate multimedia - specifically a "True Crime" video vignette - with an interactive virtual crime scene chocked full of clues. We will break down the forensic logic of the case while also seeing how this methodology can be translated in many classroom settings or content areas. Participants will also see the evolution of this project from trying to engage students as viewers and then being transformed into the directors of the murder mystery stage: a true exhibit of where the student becomes the teacher. HS451 Plant Nutrition students were tasked with developing their own murder mysteries and filming their own videos. The students also went onto develop digital escape rooms using the videos as a way to hook their audiences. The final projects created by students included all of the elements needed for a spectacular botanical true crime!
