Health science educators often face difficult decisions when students demonstrate poor behavior, lack motivation, or struggle academically. In some cases, teachers may feel pressured to discourage or prevent certain students from enrolling in health science courses. This session examines those practices through the lens of civil rights, equity, and access. Participants will explore how gatekeeping can unintentionally create barriers for students and may result in discriminatory practices, especially for historically marginalized groups. The session will provide practical guidance for maintaining high expectations and ensuring all students have equitable access to health science pathways.
