The General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital and Clinic Replacement Project has a goal to enhance the Patient Experience from the existing hospital and clinic environment. Yet the need to stay within the project budget through the current industry price escalation is also a requirement. Several key steps were taken to meet both of these objectives. First, the government created a collaborative environment with the initial project team and the various government agencies (including the base personnel, USACE, DHA, MEDCoE, etc.) to create appropriate project RFP Documents. Second, there was a focused effort on the Patient Experience and making suitable value decisions (i.e. utilizing an enterprise approach to deliver healthcare, wise use of technology systems, and implementing “best practices” from previous project experiences). Next, there has been a focus on Project Management with continued engagement from the Government personnel, the RFP Team, and Design-Build Contractor. Finally, appropriate Value Engineering has been evaluated once the Design-Build Contractor was brought onboard. This presentation will discuss how the project team worked through these four areas, keeping in mind the goal to enhance the Patient Experience yet meet the project budget requirements. Specific examples that were utilizes will be provided during the presentation: including a monthly Collaboration Survey, over-the-shoulder design meetings, and enhanced vendor support through the Design-Build Contractor.
