The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is implementing strategies to address a backlog of required facility modernizations and recapitalizations. The VA is implementing facility standardization as an innovative strategy to improve facility lifecycle management, reduce time required to develop projects, and increase patient access and outcomes. The VA is focusing on three pillars to innovatively transform its healthcare infrastructure capital investment process: People, Processes, and Technology. People focuses on establishing a multi-faceted team to develop a new paradigm for VA facility standardization. Process provides structure to the team to develop, iterate, and assess the facility solutions. Technology serves to support the people and enhance the process by organizing vast amounts of data, analyzing data, and quickly iterating on potential facility solutions. The collaboration of the three-pillar system contributes to reductions in cost and schedule, improves staff performance and retention, and continues to provide world-class patient care for our nation’s Veterans.
