The IES has created a new committee - the Outdoor Nighttime Environments (ONE) Committee. The ONE committee is responsible for writing and maintaining IES Standards covering the visual aspects of outdoor lighting, such as nighttime vision and glare for general pedestrian applications inclusive of non-roadway environmental components (e.g., walkways, landscaping, art, monuments, and building facades), and for establishing lighting guidelines for the nighttime environmental factors of skyglow and wildlife preservation. The committee structure is designed to connect related aspects of light at night foster collaboration between lighting scientists and wildlife ecologists with lighting practitioners to consider both the function and consequences of using light at night to determine best practices.
