Clinical Director for Children and Adolescent Services

This presentation prepares professionals to improve communication with parents and caregivers to build positive rapport and set expectations collaboratively. By focusing on keeping things simple for caregivers and parents, professionals will learn essential techniques to normalize concerns and talk about difficult subjects to build progress and find resolutions with children and teens. We will learn and rehearse essential interventions, such as making cold calls, talking about touchy subjects, and motivating caregivers and parents to support their child's recovery and change.
Session Objectives:
1. Reduce the stigma around communicating with parents and caregivers about the mental health/behavioral health care of minors, in order to build more effective relationships and support their child.
2. Identify important concepts related to rapport with caregiving adults, including saying hard things and moving beyond our own fears as clinicians, that we will make the situation worse.
3. Identify and rehearse essential skills for rapport, such as successful cold calls, setting boundaries, creating expectations, and finding resolution with parents and caregivers.
