This presentation explores the foundations of childhood behavior, helping caregivers, educators, and professionals understand why children behave the way they do rather than viewing behavior as defiance or failure. Participants will learn how reinforcement and punishment shape behavior, which strategies are effective (and ineffective), and how motivation and consistency play critical roles in guiding children toward success. Emphasizing practical, real-world tools, the session equips communities with stigma-free, developmentally informed approaches to support positive behavior and emotional growth. By reframing behavior as communication and teaching consistent, evidence-based strategies, this presentation aligns with the conference theme, "Empowering Communities: No Limits, No Stigma," by replacing blame with understanding and action. Session Objectives: 1. Participants will be able to identify key principles that influence childhood behavior, including reinforcement, punishment, motivation, and consistency. 2. Participants will be able to differentiate between effective and ineffective behavior guidance strategies and explain why certain approaches are more successful than others. 3. Participants will be able to apply at least two evidence-based strategies to guide the childhood behavior in a consistent, developmentally appropriate, and stigma-free manner.
