Serving communities is meaningful and impactful work, but it also carries a significant emotional burden. Community Action Kentucky staff support individuals and families facing housing instability, food insecurity, financial hardship, crises, and systemic barriers. This 1‑hour session, designed for all CAK team members, focuses on strengthening personal well‑being while sustaining the compassion and commitment at the heart of service. We begin by exploring burnout and compassion fatigue within human‑services environments. Staff often carry heavy caseloads, respond to urgent needs, absorb client stress, and manage increasing demands with limited time and resources. Over time, this emotional weight can lead to exhaustion, irritability, reduced empathy, or feeling disconnected from the mission. Participants will learn how burnout develops, why it is common in helping professions, and how Community Action workers are uniquely affected. Attendees will then identify early signs of stress and emotional depletion, including physical symptoms such as fatigue, mental strain (difficulty focusing), and behavioral indicators (withdrawal or difficulty setting boundaries). Through guided reflection, participants will explore the patterns and triggers that show up in their daily work.
