In celebration of Ko-Thi Dance Company’s 50th Anniversary, the concert “Juba-Lee” is based on its signature work “Juba” inspired by famed tap dancer William Henry Lane. The adult ensemble & Ton Ko-Thi Children’s Performing Ensemble takes the audience on a thrilling journey using the Adinkra principle Sankofa (“to go back & get it”) of Ghana presenting a historical account of African people through the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. The common thread of reclaiming & celebrating one’s spirit within community is centered around jazz, tap, Haitian, & traditional West African dance & musical forms. “Juba-Lee” features new works by DeMar Walker, Sonya Thompson, Tisiphani Mayfield, LePierce Eubanks & orchestration by Kumasi Allen & Kameron “Keon” Sykes.
