Reimagining and adapting plays from the theatrical canon allows contemporary playwrights to grapple with and talk back to our complicated and often intolerant past. In this workshop, we will talk about different ways that contemporary playwrights have approached writing back to the canon and participate in playwriting exercises to explore how we can write back to and reimagine plays of the past.
We will be meeting via Zoom. If people are comfortable with cameras on, that is my preference. Folks should have something to write with, either a physical paper or the ability to use a word processor on their computer. If they have a play in mind that they want to "write back" to, that's even better, but not required.
