Ko-Thi Dance Company Class: Guinea Fare
Associate Artistic Director Sonya Thompson will teach a class on the dance “Guinea Fare”, one of the pieces from the concert “JUBA-LEE”. “Guinea Fare” is a traditional woman’s dance originating from the Sousou people of Guinea, West Africa.

Sonya Thompson - BIO
Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Sonya Thompson has been dancing since the age of four and is deeply embedded with the traditional culturalisms of African people in the Caribbean diaspora. She graduated from Milwaukee High School of the Arts as a dance major training in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop and West African Dance. As a trainee, she joined Milwaukee’s own Ko-Thi Dance Company in 2009. Currently, she serves as one the Associate Artistic Director. Some of her company performance credits include “Words From the Sole”, “IMANI: A Tribute to West Africa”, and “VIBRATIONS; Rhythmic Motion”, “UJIMA” & “JUBA-LEE”. Sonya Thompson graduated from Milwaukee Area Technical College with her degree in Associate Applied Science in Administrative Professional in May 2014. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
