Breakout Session 3.3 Elevating English Learners: Driving Growth with High Expectations
This session will explore district and school efforts to empower content teachers in supporting multilingual learners (MLs). We will highlight strategies that foster a mindset that MLs can succeed and access grade-level material. Additionally, we'll examine how the professional development structures put into place at the district and school level have contributed to ongoing growth in EL progress and overall academic achievement. The session will feature presenters from all levels of our educational system: the general education reading teacher, school-level multilingual learner teacher, a school principal, the director of curriculum and instruction, and the supervisor for multilingual learners. By working together towards the same goal of high expectations with a focus on equitable access, data analysis, professional development, and individual student outcomes, we can all make a big difference for the children we serve. Our goal is for participants to walk away excited about implementing strategies based on their school data and unique needs. Presenters: Brent Hall, Lo DeWalt, Luisa Palacio Betancurt, Sara Price, Danielle Barone
