Breakout Session 5.2 Enhancing Equitable Student Outcomes through Strategic Scheduling for Intervention and Enrichment
This conference proposal aims to share the key strategies and lessons learned from our journey at Mills Park Middle School implementing the S.M.A.R.T. Block, offering practical guidance for implementing similar initiatives that can drive meaningful change and help every student reach their full potential. Our approach to enhancing equitable student outcomes is a model that can be replicated in other schools and districts. By prioritizing collaboration among staff, strategic scheduling, and personalized academic support, we have created an environment where all students can succeed.
Mills Park Middle School (MPMS), the largest middle school in the Wake County Public School System, serves over 1,600 students while maintaining one of the highest proficiency rates in the district. In addition to academic success, our school is dedicated to fostering high growth and equitable outcomes for all students, regardless of their background. The challenge of addressing the diverse needs of a large student population led us to develop a multi-faceted approach that focuses on enhancing core instruction and implementing innovative scheduling solutions to ensure personalized academic support with a S.M.A.R.T. block.
