"It’s not enough to work harder, we’ve got to learn to work better. This requires thinking differently about how we work and building new systems and processes that cut out waste and give us the results we really need: better performance, more employee engagement, and a safer workplace. This hands-on workshop will be led by a team from NYCAMH, NEDPA, and Cornell, who have launched the initiative “A Systems Approach to Farm Performance, Engagement, and Safety” to apply systems thinking and Lean Six Sigma with real dairy farms. Workshop outline: • Introduction: Participants will learn how real farms are using a Systems Approach to improve Farm Performance, Engagement, and Safety. [10 minutes] • Hands-on Group Exercise: Participants will use a planning tool to work through a real problem, such as: onboarding, equipment maintenance, planning for planting, high incidence of repetitive motion injuries or heat/cold stress. [40 minutes] • Group discussion of what was learned and ideas for making meaningful change in their operations to improve performance, engagement, and safety. [15 minutes] • Wrap-up and take-home materials will be distributed. [10 minutes] "
