Training OCALM teaches about reducing access to lethal means, such as firearms and medication. This course covers lethal means counseling and how to work with people at risk for suicide—and their families—to reduce access, and to enhance skills, confidence, and communication methods needed when interacting with those at risk. This training has been adapted from the national CALM curriculum to include Oregon-based research conducted with firearm owners from rural areas. Recommended Ffor healthcare and direct service providers. Previous suicide prevention training is recommended for participants.
