We all know that the key to accelerating student learning is differentiating instruction appropriately. We differentiate for various types of students within school and classrooms - exceptional children, AIG students, those with academic difficulties, and students that need an extra challenge in the form of honors or AP courses. Do we, however, differentiate for our right brained, creative learners?
We are teaching a generation that has never known a day without technology, text messaging, and the internet. We know all of this, yet do we adapt our schools and classrooms to truly meet the needs of students whose problem is not with the information, but with the presentation style? The purpose of this session is to provide the rationale for adjusting instruction to account for students that do not learn through traditional means. These are students that are creative, free thinkers, and interpret things through a different lens. Do we take the time to differentiate instruction for the creative? We have the tools - are we utilizing them? Would it impact growth if we did?
This session will provide examples into reaching this population in the classroom while adapting school and district cultures to make this our new reality.
