Participants learn how the Wilkes County Schools Early College principal and staff implement the Reading Apprenticeship Literacy Program in the 9th and 10th Grade science, social studies, and English classes to address their students reading and SEL needs. This program changed the teaching and learning at the Early College. You learn details about the North Carolina Reading Apprenticeship Literacy Program and how the principal:
- Incorporated Reading Apprenticeship into PDP goals for three teachers and included it in the School Improvement goal post-Covid.
- Presented teacher-led Reading Apprenticeship strategies at staff meetings and modeled for different content areas with the expectation of trying at least once before the next PLC.
- Conducted "Instructional rounds " in the classroom focused on students' engagement during the activity versus teacher actions and behaviors.
