Rea Farms STEAM Academy is a new magnet school located in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. We were charged with developing a new STEAM model as we opened our Magnet school and we selected Problem-Based Learning for our K-5 students. Problem-Based Learning increases student engagement and builds a deeper understanding of concepts through the use of practical application, student interests, and hands-on learning. This interactive session provides an introduction to integrating Problem-Based Learning with a standard language arts curriculum. We will share successful projects we've implemented at our school and help teams brainstorm their first PBL challenge with their current curriculum.
