Breakout Session 6.7: Implementing Advanced Teacher Roles to Enhance Teacher Efficacy and Student Performance in Math
In this session, participants will learn how a small elementary school in Eastern North Carolina implemented advanced teaching roles starting in the 2021-22 school year in order to enhance individual and collective teacher efficacy and share best practices, specifically in elementary math. The school utilized a partial-release multi-classroom leader, who taught all core subjects but was provided release time to coach and mentor teachers in grades 3-5 and also pull intervention groups of "borderline" students based on benchmark and formative assessment data. Using this model, the growth score rose from -0.2 to +4.34 in math; notably, the teachers in this tested subject remained the same. The growth score placed in the top 15% of schools in the area of mathematics.
