Horizons School Learning Program
A community-based experiential learning program in its 29th year of operation reconceptualized its curriculum guided by WIOA. Readiness for Employment And Disability Inclusion (READI) was designed for young adults 18 and older who have learning and other disabilities. Students select from two tracks – Career Preparation or College Preparation – and complete learning experiences leading to gainful employment and community living. Individual and group instruction is presented across two levels and includes Workplace Readiness Training, Information and Technology Management, Job Exploration, Job Prep Training, Personal Work Adjustment, Vocational Needs Assessments, Self-Advocacy Instruction, Individual Support Services and Personal Safety. There is value in sharing lessons learned from a well-established and innovative youth transition program, which enables transition to work and living independence for young adults with learning and other disabilities. The presentation will feature program highlights, success outcomes and participant examples.
