Walls and borders have scarred Jerusalem throughout history. They can be traced in the archaeological layers of the city like the walls from the time of the Assyrian siege or the Babylonian conquest. The green line from 1948 now seems like a green belt dividing the two national groups, as well as their cultures, urban aesthetics and wealth. The Western Wall is a symbol not just of prayer but also of religious divide while the Security Fence is the latest expression of political divide.
