8:05 AM - 10:00 AMSat
This workshop will focus on the overall architecture of Winlink, Winlink hardware setup, and Winlink operations. The curriculum will be hands on Practical. Bring your Winlink setup with a dummy load if you like. We will look at the various hardware options for using Winlink. We will discuss Sound modes Vs Packet Modes. We will discuss forms and will exchange mail via a local gateway so you can see the messages exchanged with the Cloud if its available. Winlink is a critical mission skill to learn how to connect a computer to your radio to transmit messages. If you are new to amateur radio, Winlink is software that converts data (1's and 0's) into radio signals, kind of like the old dial-up internet days. The radio sends that data over radio waves to a local Winlink RadioMessage Server (RMS) instead of through a wire or cell tower. Please bring your PC with Winlink software loaded on it, your signal interface and a HT radio. Once the software is uploaded, follow the Winlink instructions and send the Telnet message to activate your account before arriving. The workshop facilitors will see to it that you can send & receive email over the radio via Winlink by the end of the day.
