Ecologist, Wetland Management and Educational Services, Inc.
Wildlife ecologist Leigh Fredrickson will share a lifetime of wetland experiences that led him to his more than 70-year career and the many lessons he learned along the way about wetlands, wetland management, and wildlife management. While his journey started with a focus on avian species, it evolved to include major animal taxa, vegetation, invertebrates, and niches in wetland habitats. Learn about the importance of bioenergetics, which clearly links energy acquisition and use with life history success, and find out how a variety of management responses promoted his interest in abiotic factors and especially biogeochemistry, factors that were not regularly recognized as important or of interest in early wetland management. Discover how he came to understand that the complexities of good decision-making required integrating the vast array of knowledge across many disciplines in order to guide a sustainable future.
