Safe Smart Infrastructure that Protects Vulnerable Road Users
AREA X.O in partnership with our industry partners, Transport Canada and the City of Ottawa are creating best practices for the safe adoption of smart infrastructure that protects VRUs.
We are looking at the role of machine vision sensors, communication infrastructure, security (SCMS) to ensure CAVs can navigate safely and have increased time to avoid collision. Testing first at the AreaX.O private test facility and then deploying in real-world traffic intersections and rail crossings. Our advanced CAV has an integrated OBU and RF analyzer to detect, receive, and act on SCMS encrypted safety messages. We utilize our motorized test target VRU platform to create high risk scenarios and train algorithms for machine vision effectiveness. We are applying WEF AAM Safe Driving -scenario-based CAV testing framework and contributing data to the University of Warwick’s Safety Pool Scenario Database
