Killjoy of Advocacy: When the Work Stops Being Joyful
Advocacy is often rooted in love, passion, and the fight for justice—but what happens when the very work meant to liberate us starts to weigh us down?
Killjoy of Advocacy is a raw, necessary conversation about the emotional toll of being “the strong one,” the burnout that comes from always showing up, and the loneliness that can arise when your purpose turns into pressure. In this session, Black LGBTQ+ advocates, organizers, and healers will unpack what it means to lose joy in the work, how to recognize burnout, and how to reimagine boundaries, rest, and restoration as radical tools for sustainability.
This is not a session about quitting—it’s about choosing yourself while still choosing the fight. Come ready for honesty, healing, and tools to help you keep going without losing yourself in the process.
