Mercedes Keynote: Challenges and opportunities for collaboration on the SDV vision
MBition, a 100% subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz, develops in-vehicle infotainment, DevOps and app solutions, leveraging open-source and open standards.
We rely on expressed support for open-source development from Mercedes-Benz and across the industry. However, while the automotive industry recognizes the potential benefits of deepening open-source and collaborative strategies, there seems to be a remaining gap to fundamentally transforming our industry.
Focusing on individual company success and maintaining a competitive landscape is crucial. Simultaneously, addressing shared challenges like security and safety guarantees remains an open question, especially with increasing demands for maintenance guarantees and liability understanding due to recent legislation.
The industry's next challenge is to create new software platforms for Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV). New initiatives mirror the messages heard from GENIVI and Automotive Grade Linux as far back as 15 years ago. What has fundamentally changed, and what can or should change? Let's open a discussion about the obstacles that may still hold us back from transformative change.
This presentation will start by sharing the history of MBition's creation as a software hub, its rapid growth and evolution, and what this has meant for collaborative work
