In a time when so much negative news can dominate what the public hears about education, it is more important than ever before to share the successes that each school has with its parents and the surrounding community. With many options available, schools need to do everything they can to showcase their strengths to attract and retain students, teachers, and staff. These success stories serve to build a positive culture that can change the perceptions of students, teachers, parents, and others that influence a school. Positive messaging can also be the difference in what attracts and retains talent for the school.
In this session, attendees will hear from four of North Carolina’s Principals of the Year with authentic strategies on how school leaders can market their school's success stories. These principals bring perspectives from working in a range of school levels across the state along with diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Strategies include marketing school information in multi-media formats, personalized engagement to bring the community in, and strategic messaging that informs stakeholders on the work being done in our public schools. These efforts lift up the culture of any school and highlight the importance of instructional practice and collaboration that takes place in our buildings each and every day. The NC Principal of the Year presenters will provide practicable examples from a variety of school experiences that have been designed to connect schools, communities, and external stakeholders in celebration of public schools. Through this celebration, public school leaders can share quantitative and qualitative data on school achievement and promote a collaborative culture of high expectations and mutual accountability for their school and the school community. These efforts can help school personnel as well as parents understand the impact of our public schools and the amazing things that we do for our students.
