This presentation is one that I've recently created for the Domestic Violence Prosecutor Academy, hosted by the Department of Justice. It is based on Chapter 4 in Dr. Judith Herman's book, 'Trauma & Recovery." It's meant to expand our perspective and understanding around domestic violence and domestic violence survivors; domestic violence is domestic captivity. Domestic violence victims are captives. Changing the way we think about these issues can and will change (and improve) the way we react and engage with survivors and, ideally, positively impact both case and personal outcomes.
