Those arriving first at the scene after a report of child abuse are incredibly important to the overall investigation. The actions taken during the first response impact what happens later. This presentation will address the possible first impressions that a first responder has regarding alleged victims and the dynamics that contribute to those first impressions. Techniques for engagement will be discussed. The presentation will offer suggestions regarding how to prepare the family for the investigation and forensic interview.
