Investigation of child injury and child death often focuses on intent and mechanism of injury. Frequently, the investigator or medical examiner is called on to determine if an injury or cluster of injuries could be associated with a "short fall." The literature on this topic varies greatly and is often contradictory. This presentation will critically assess reported short fall injuries and proposed mechanisms of injury.
