Children and adolescents experience a variety of symptoms related to abuse and trauma, and may present during interviews in a multitude of ways. Many of these reactions and presentations may manifest as or be mistaken for other mental health or behavioral issues. Using case examples and video clips, this presentation will discuss the impact of trauma on children, including the effects of trauma on memory, and the various ways trauma may present in an interview. Trauma often leads to reluctance or avoidance, and strategies to overcome this in the interview will also be discussed.
