Forensic Interviews for Children with Disabilities – Considerations and Accommodations
This session will focus on strategies for interviewing children and adolescents with disabilities. Understanding child/adolescent development is essential for all professionals conducting child forensic interviews. While forensic interviewers may have a good understanding of typical development, most do not have expertise in the field of developmental disabilities. Research shows that children and adolescents with disabilities are at an increased risk for maltreatment compared to those without disabilities. The goal of this session will be to provide strategies to use both in preparation for and in conducting forensic interviews for this vulnerable population.
