This first of its kind joint presentation is designed to provide criminal justice personnel a better understanding of how Child Sexual Abuse Imagery investigations impact survivors. The presentation will provide an introduction to NCMEC’s new program of work, Survivor Services, and the Continuum of Care concept which works on bettering response, resources and services to survivors post-identification. In 2019, NCMEC convened survivors to listen and learn from them on their interactions with law enforcement, and how we can all improve these experiences for future survivors. Together, NCMEC, an ICAC detective sergeant and a senior deputy prosecutor will share the survivors’ feedback and then demonstrate real-world application on how to build trust and respect when working with survivors, how to provide a more supportive environment when working with survivors, how to understand delayed reporting, critical questions to be asked by law enforcement when conducting these investigations, and recommendations on how to positively impact survivors during the course of a criminal investigation and subsequent prosecution.
