During the COVID-19 pandemic, health communicators have faced two unprecedented challenges: communicating about a global health crisis in real time and navigating a rapidly shifting, politically polarized information environment. CommunicateHealth has leveraged our human-centered design process and health literacy best practices to create COVID-19 materials that meet people where they are. In this session, we’ll invite health communicators to discuss their experiences with COVID-19 communication and share lessons learned, using Zoom breakout rooms to facilitate the conversation. We’ll also present case studies of COVID-19 materials for diverse audiences, including college and university communities and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Objectives:
• Identify common obstacles that health communicators may face in creating COVID-19 content
• Identify potential opportunities for improvement in their own COVID-19 communication work
• Describe health literacy-based communication strategies they can apply to COVID-19 communication projects
