This is a pre-conference mini-course offering available to all registered attendees. No additional registration needed - Sponsored by TekSouth
3:30 PM - 4:30 PMTue
This training session equips financial managers with practical Excel techniques to clean, combine, and analyze financial data efficiently for reporting and budget tracking. Participants will learn how to structure raw data using tools such as Text to Columns, Trim, Clean, Flash Fill, and Remove Duplicates, ensuring data is accurate and ready for analysis. The session introduces modern formula techniques, including XLookup, Spill Formulas, and structured references using the double-period and hashtags, enabling users to dynamically link and summarize multiple datasets without manual adjustments. These methods help reconcile invoices, contracts, and budget reports, and support Status of Funds (SoF) tracking. The second half of the training focuses on Power Query, demonstrating how to import various file types, merge multiple data sources, and automate data cleaning and transformations. Participants will see how a repeatable workflow allows monthly or periodic data updates to require only a refresh, reducing manual effort while improving accuracy. Examples throughout the session highlight preparing leadership briefings, comparing datasets, and tracking budgets. Quick tips and keyboard shortcuts are included to enhance efficiency. The session is designed for all skill levels, emphasizing techniques that save time, reduce errors, and deliver actionable insights from financial data. By the end, participants will be able to clean and prepare financial datasets, link and analyze data dynamically, and automate reporting workflows to support informed decision-making within DoW financial management operations. Learning Objectives: • Prepare financial data using Excel tools • Combine and analyze data with functions, spill formulas, and structured references • Automate workflows with Power Query for efficient reporting
