Break-Out Session 4.6: Developing a Culture of Care in the Return to the Classroom
Presenters: Jenn Aguilar, Lindsay Boykin
District: Durham Public Schools
Everyone has experienced a traumatic event through the Covid and felt the impactful changes of life as we knew it. Between school closures, unemployment, shutdowns, and ultimately loss of loved ones, we all experienced deep loss and are now trying to figure out how to re-engage in a full life; this includes educators, students and families. In order for teachers to believe in their collective impact, they must feel ready to address the trauma of their students and first their own.
Please join Creekside Elementary as we unpack our first-year of becoming a trauma-informed school. We will share the key components of our implementation, as well as resources, successes and lessons learned.
