Presenters: Dr. Stacy Stewart, Dr. Shaneeka Moore-Lawrence, Kristin Tate, James Hopkins
District: Durham Public Schools
To improve traditionally struggling schools and positively impact student achievement, Durham Public Schools maximizes the intellectual capacity of principals to build ""collective principal efficacy"" and comradery through Schools on the Rise. When everyone believes “the work” of school turnaround requires the support and guidance of those in the trenches with similar demographics and a record of improvement, transformation begins. During this session, three principals will share their evidence-based strategies specific to their distinguished areas of leadership. Strategic leader, Dr. Moore Lawrence, develops a collaborative culture of high expectations for students and staff through the school improvement process. The micro-political leader, Principal Hopkins, creates a school that produces teacher leaders and peer accountability. Finally, the data-driven leader, Principal Tate, uses PLCs to engage teachers in data analysis to see the impact of their collaboration on student learning. Each presentation will conclude with impact data. By the end of the session, participants will acquire step-by-step guidance to building collective principal and teacher efficacy.
