Break-Out Session 6.1: Building Collective Teacher Efficacy through the Implementation of Morning Meeting
Presenter: Daniel Barnes
District: Wilson County Schools
In this session, participants will learn how the implementation of the Responsive Classroom® Morning Meeting impacted the collective efficacy of a small elementary school staff in Eastern North Carolina during the delivery of virtual, remote instruction. Prior to the start of the 2020-21 academic year, staff members completed a Teacher Self Efficacy Scale (TSES) influenced by Bandura’s work to identify their self-perception at delivering instruction. At the end of the first term, staff members took a post-test TSES to measure the change, and those results will be discussed along with a review of coded qualitative information to provide insight into the impact of Morning Meeting. In addition, student engagement data was calculated throughout and at the end of the study. Within this session, participants will receive a synopsis of the procedures and structures of Morning Meeting, a description of how vertical planning and coaching was used to support the practitioners, and feedback about how students and staff benefitted from the use of Morning Meeting to establish connections, relationships, and expectations in the virtual setting and face-to-face setting.
