THE CRITICAL IMPORTANCE OF DIVERSE PATIENT, RESIDENT, AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT
Now more than ever, patient and family perspective is critically important, and the pressing need of diversity in representation, to ensure all communities can be meaningfully involved in safety and quality conversations. Spotlight: HealthPartners
The COVID-19 pandemic presents new challenges to effectively bring the patient/resident and family voice and perspective into safety conversations within healthcare organizations. As many traditional means of including patient, resident, or family engagement were cancelled or suspended during response efforts, it's clear new methods are needed during this critical time for patients and families to be heard and their input included in solutions to the pandemic’s safety challenges. The need for diverse representation in patient and family engagement efforts, particularly from our communities of color, remains a frequently identified challenge for many healthcare organizations in their effort to address racial inequities and health disparities. Speakers will address both the critical importance of patient and family perspective and input at this time, as well as the pressing need of diversity in representation to ensure all communities can be meaningfully involved in safety and quality conversations.
Participants will:
1. Understand the reasons why healthcare organizations must connect directly with diverse patients in order to get the insights they need to build better and more inclusive safety programs
2. Learn the evidence-based ways in which patient and family engagement leads to safer, higher quality care
3. Discuss the challenges and potential solutions to advancing diversity in patient and family engagement efforts for safety
