Shared Kuleana of Our Digital Lives - Mitigating Cyberbullying through Digital Citizenship to Support Students and Teachers
Helping a student find balance in their digital lives takes more than a school and their teachers. The kuleana for helping the students is with the entire community. Take part in a discussion of how we can help students make smart decisions when they are navigating the internet, clicking through social media, and choosing to put opinions and content online. We'll talk through finding balance in being online, the privacy concerns, the kinds of digital footprints left in their wake, and how to encourage better digital literacy. We'll also learn about laws and school policies around cyberbullying and how to mitigate the intentional and unintentional effects that cyberbullying can have. We'll close with a discussion of safe spaces for students to develop empathy and being an upstander. Led by (Thanh) Truc Nguyen, University of Hawai'i Manoa.
