West Middle School 8th graders are acting as peer mediators and restorative justice practitioners as part of the discipline process at their school. Join 8th grade Peer Mediators as they demonstrate the power of Restorative Justice. Sarah Clapham
The session will highlight fundamental elements that West Middle School in District 11 used to implement a successful RP program. The audience will begin to understand a tiered process including the development of school-wide practices, prevention strategies, and response to discipline procedures to build relationships and restore community. The presentation will also include a student panel of 8th grade peer mediators who will share their experience on training, facilitating peer mediations, and the changes they have observed in the school because of the program. The students will model a restorative circle inviting the audience to participate and practice their own RP skills.
